Rainy days and photos

Well yesterday was a wash-out for downtown late afternoon.  Debi and I went to City Centre to find something bright as the rains came down.  I have resisted HDR photo processing. After seeing Debi's subtle, tasteful HDR processing, I decided to give it a try.  Of course, my first photos are over-processed.  Photomatrix does fill in some of the washed out areas even on a single photo. It is a learning curve with more to follow.

Photographic Equipment

Retirement is good with so many opportunities to explore with camera in hand.  One of the developments with so many hours behind the lens has been hands that ache from holding the heavy camera. The question becomes, can I part with my baby in order to have a smaller, lightweight camera. Hmm, probably not.

I could follow Gary's lead and shoot less photos per hour which will probably improve my photography as well.  Another option is to find a used, lightweight camera to carry around town.

And speaking of around town, the Megabus passed me this evening.  A trip to New Orleans is just a ride away....

The Monuments Men

Went with a neighbor to see the movie this afternoon.  I recommend this movie to anyone who admires those wonderful pieces of artwork that were preserved during the war. There was a good representation of the attempt to destroy the people and any trace of their history and culture as if they never existed. It brings to mind several questions concerning not only the famous artwork but also family and cultural history preservation.
Each photo that is posted or printed has a purpose. It has recorded a moment in time from the photographer's viewpoint.  I ask myself: what do I see, what am I recording and for whom. Sometimes, I know the answers and other times it is unclear. These reflections make me more aware when I am behind the camera.

Blue Moon

The moon was elusive this evening.  Finally found a location to shoot a few photos.

Family Photos at Williams Tower

Chased a toddler around to catch a few family shots.  I much prefer the challenge of the random, natural shots.  Wonderful family and I received a hug from the toddler to cap off the day.

Terry Hershey Park

Went to the park with fellow photographer where we played with shadows, light from the sun and movement of bicycles.  Followed this with appetizers at Carmelos where we could not resist one last photo.
